3-Phase Power Solutions Shore-Port-Power Converters
Many countries and state regulatory boards are developing new regulations to reduce emissions from diesel auxiliary engines on ocean-going vessels while berthing at their ports. This requires turning off their auxiliary power and getting their power from shore. Because of the dissimilar frequency power from one country to the next, a phase converter is an economical solution. Connecting ocean-going vessels to the large variety of marina power supplies is a complex task because of the dissimilar voltage and frequency from one country to the next. You have voltages of 208, 240, 400 and 460 volts, which are common. The frequencies may be 50 or 60Hz. The supplies may be single or 3-phase power. A shore-port converter is the economical answer to all of these situations. A shore-port-power converter converts voltage, phase, and frequency for shipboards by using a variable inductance input transformer that can be connected to the shore power. The primary windings have a numbers of taps, and a computer-controlled switch is connected between adjacent taps to establish a closed circuit or an open circuit between the taps. In doing this, it can configure primary windings as a low or high voltage as appropriate to the shore power. |
