3-Phase Power Solutions

Static-Phase Converters

Static Phase Converters are design to only operate one machine. The static-phase converter is one of the first phase converters used. There are primary drawbacks to the static-phase converter.  It will only operate one machine, and the motor will only receive about 80% of its normal power. One reason why the static converter is so popular is the cost. One thing you have to take into consideration is that static-phase converters use more energy by the nature of its technology.

Static-phase converters have a shorter operational life and wear out more quickly, and they need to be replaced more often. Also, you must include the cost of multiple static-phase converters if you are using more than one machine plus the cost of any damage it may cause to your equipment. A true balanced, 3-phase power rotary converter will last a very long time and will provide you with reliable 3-phase power.

Static-phase converters work well if you only have one piece of  3-phase equipment and if you are a small business or homeowner with a welder or grinder that needs 3-phase power.

Your manufacturer will help you select the phase converter that will do the best job for your application, and they will help you select the right size of phase converter that best suits your operational needs.

Three Phase Solution

Static-phase converters do not actually convert one-phase power to 3-phase power, nor do they generate 3-phase power. Static converters operate by changing and discharging capacitors to produce a third-phase of power only a few seconds during the startup of electric motors. If there is any 3-phase circuitry on your equipment, the static-phase converter will not properly operate it. It may start your motor, but you take a chance on damaging the motor or having motor burnout.

Instead we recommend a Rotary phase converter that will generate true balanced 3 phase power and can power virtually any type of 3 phase load.  The top two companies are ACE and TEMCO.  Check out their Phase Converters at their web sites.
